Differences in IMRT Radiation Doses May Complicate Study Results in Sarcomas (04/09/2008)
Differences between the prescribed dose of radiation in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and the dose that’s actually delivered may make comparison studies in sarcomas difficult to interpret. These findings were reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.

PET Scan More Accurate Predictor of Treatment Response for Soft Tissue Sarcomas (02/08/2008)
Positron emission tomography (PET) scans were found to be significantly more accurate than standard methods in judging response to first-line treatment for high-grade soft tissue sarcomas. These results were reported in Clinical Cancer Research.

Sutent® Linked with Heart Problems (01/08/2008)
According to the results of a study published in the Lancet, treatment with Sutent® (sunitinib) was linked with the development of heart problems in some patients with metastatic gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

Update in the Management of Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors (GIST): A Report from ASCO 2007 (10/12/2007)
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and their management have become an important focus for clinical research.  At the 2007 meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), results of large Phase III trials evaluating therapy for adjuvant and metastatic disease were presented.  In addition, presentations of clinical trials testing new agents, potential biomarkers, and methods to assess disease response were reported. 

Survival for Soft Tissue Sarcoma Patients Improved at High-volume Centers (06/06/2007)
According to an article recently published in Annals of Surgery, survival and physical function for patients with soft tissue sarcoma (STS) are significantly improved for those treated at a medical center that treats high volumes of patients with this disease when compared with medical centers that treat lower volumes.
