Initiating Treatment Due to Elevated CA125 Marker Does Not Improve Survival in Recurrent Ovarian Cancer

Early treatment for recurrent ovarian cancer based on a rising CA125 marker does not appear to improve overall survival compared with treatment that is started upon presentation of symptoms, according to the results of a study presented at the 2009 annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) in Orlando, Florida.
Removal of Ovaries During Hysterectomy for Benign Condition Carries Health Risks

Among women who have a hysterectomy for reasons other than cancer, those who also have their ovaries removed have a slightly higher overall risk of death from cancer and heart disease than those who do not have their ovaries removed. These results were published in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Combination of Hycamtin® and Taxotere® Shows Promise in Treatment of Recurrent Gynecologic Cancers

Among women with recurrent ovarian or endometrial (uterine) cancer, 25% experienced a partial or complete response to treatment with Hycamtin® (topotecan) and Taxotere® (docetaxel). The results of this Phase II clinical trial will be published in Gynecologic Oncology.
Alimta® Active Against Platinum-resistant Ovarian Cancer

According to the results of a Phase II clinical trial, treatment with the chemotherapy drug Alimta® (pemetrexed) reduced the extent of cancer in some women with recurrent, platinum-resistant ovarian cancer. These results were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Addition of Third Chemotherapy Agent Provides No Added Benefit for Advanced Ovarian Cancer

Adding a third cytotoxic agent to the standard regiment of Taxol® (paclitaxel) and Paraplatin® (carboplatin) in women with advanced-stage ovarian cancer provides no benefit in progression-free survival or overall survival, according to the results of a study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
